Opening the door to Memory Loss and Wellness

Tuesday 20 March9.30 for a 10am start – 3.30pm

The day is the first in a series, bringing together an exciting group of speakers to share some of the latest thinking on how the brain works, what can help to keep it well and how to understand what’s happening when memory fails.

The day includes:

  • A Dementia Friends session – Anneliese Maerz

The Dementia Friends programme aims to change people’s perceptions of dementia. We will learn more about what it is like to live with dementia and the small ways that we can help.

  • Nutrition & Brain VitalityProfessor Anne Marie Minihane

What part does diet play in keeping our brains working well? How important is our genetic make-up? Can fish oils and omega-3 fatty acids really help?

  • Hydration matters Dr Lee Hooper

Older people need to eat well to stay healthy and they may need support and encouragement. But are they drinking enough? What can happen if they aren’t and how can dehydration be prevented?

  • Brain Basics and Behaviour Danuta Lipinska

A simple overview of our wonderful master organ, the brain. We’ll  discuss how changes due to a dementia can affect our behaviour and our experience of what was once so familiar.

Bring your questions and observations for our discussion.

We shall also share:

  • Group discussions, and a Question & Answer Panel
  • Teas, coffees, refreshments & Mangreen’s healthy lunch!
About Mangreen Trust

Mangreen Trust was set up more than 30 years ago by Pat and Leslie Duffield, to provide a welcome to all and space and opportunity for people to grow.

This day is part of the Mangreen Living Well programme, a series of talks, workshops and events to explore different aspects of health and wellbeing, personal and spiritual growth and our relationships with the wider community and the world we live in.

The day also marks the start of our Making friends with Dementia project, a community venture to offer opportunities for friendship, learning and support for those living with dementia and for the families, friends, and professionals who care for them.

Details of further Making friends with Dementia events will follow.
